While reviewing my own portfolio I recently stumbled across the fact that I was missing something that I actually use a lot for work-related projects within Unreal Engine which is DMX controlled lights. So I decided to create this little case study where I created some custom DMX fixtures and put them in a nice and simple studio environment to show off some light chases.
When creating the little podium, I felt like it could use a model and when importing a metahuman, I decided to dive a little deeper into the facial animation with the Live Link face app.
First time almost not using After Effects at all to make the edit, and instead used Da Vinci for the whole color correction and edit. Only the title design was still done in AFX.
Unreal Engine really comes with a very nice and easy to use toolkit for DMX and it could be really useful for previsualisation of live shows or concerts, or it could be used to create a completely virtual concert with a LED backdrop. Lots of exciting realtime use cases.
